Bred by Sarah Mesick March 14, 1996 - November 7, 2000
Ed is still trying to figure out how Grace came to live with us. I think it is because God wanted her to be my dog. About the time Jericho was deciding that field work was a whole lot more fun than dog shows, Sarah Messick had a litter of puppies, a two pup litter on the ground out of her then nine year old Ducky (Ch Folly’s That’s Just Ducky CD JH WC). The pups were sired by Ch Amani’s Hunter Eclipse UD JH OA NAJ WCX, a fine working dog with multiple group placements. Sarah invited us to see the pups, and Grace came home with us. Her name, “Grace Abounds” comes from a verse in the Bible that says, “God is able to make all grace abound to you…” I love the verse and I loved my Gracie girl!
Grace did very well in the show ring at National Specialties with her buddy Tracy Kerns. Grace came in second in the open bitch class at the 1998 specialty under breeder-judge Doug Windsor, and again placed second in 1999 under Michael Faulkner. She finished her championship (shown by Candy) the same day she completed her CD title.
Grace was a very talented dog and she loved to work. If I put her in another room while training Jericho she would whine until it was her turn. One time Ed was teaching Jericho to get into the heel position. Ed would move a quarter turn, and then have Jericho get into position. Grace was sitting about four feet from them. When Ed would tell Jericho to heel, Grace would move a quarter turn also.
She acquired three Senior Hunter legs in one Hunt test season and would have completed her title in that season with a more experienced handler. Ed and I were looking forward to training her for Master as she had the necessary talent and heart.
We had a great time in Novice A obedience. She got her title in two consecutive weekends, with three class placements.
Grace proved to be as good at motherhood as she was at everything else. She easily whelped a large litter and was so proud of them. If they inherited just a little bit of her beauty, talent and enthusiasm for work, they will be very special indeed.
