Buying a Puppy From Sanderling

Thank you for your interest in our Flat-Coated Retrievers.

Our desire is to breed beautiful Flat-Coats who are able to work at advanced levels in dog sports, particularly the AKC Hunt Test Program and/or competitive obedience. So our ideal home is one where the dogs will not only be part of the family, but will also be worked.  We also show our dogs, and hope that quality Sanderling dogs will have a chance to shine in the conformation ring. However, our first priority is that our pups go to loving homes, so sometimes our pups go to “pet” homes.

Our puppies are checked by a veterinarian, wormed, micro chipped, and AKC registered with a name we select before they go to their forever homes at eight weeks of age.  In addition, the litter will experience Early Neurological Stimulation, Early Scent Stimulation and other puppy development activities, started on crate & house training, evaluated for structure and type, and retrieving desire.

Our puppies cost $3000.00 and come with a lifetime warranty against genetic health defects such as hip and elbow dysplasia. We are concerned with the genetic health of our litters, so our buyers must agree to x-ray the dog for hip and elbow dysplasia between the ages of 24-30 months and send this x-ray to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for evaluation. All costs of the x-ray and OFA evaluation shall be paid by the buyer.  We also require to have the dog checked for hereditary eye defects a minimum of twice in its life, once prior to 2 years of age and once after 6 years of age. This should be done by a member of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and the results sent to the OFA and be paid for by the buyer.

Since we spend eight weeks with the puppies, we are best qualified to chose which puppy in a litter will join your family, assuming there is a suitable pup in the litter for you.

There is a lifetime commitment to all of the puppies bred by us.  We expect to remain in contact with new puppy owners throughout the dog’s life.  A private Facebook group represents the Sanderling community and is a place for owners to share stories, ask questions, and post pictures.

Interested puppy buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire to assist us in selecting the right puppy for your needs. Puppy buyers must also provide references, and personally pick up your puppy.
